What is Fairfaxpedia?

Fairfaxpedia is a collaborative encyclopedia for the Fairfax community in Northern Virginia. It seeks to bring the most up-to-date, unbiased information to its readers by allowing peer editing and review. Fairfaxpedia is a wiki, meaning that anyone can edit, correct, or improve the information found on the site by creating an account and clicking the "edit this page" link.

Why a community wiki

Community wikis can be valuable resources of local information. Often times, it's difficult for average citizens to learn about local issues. Media outlets don't give community issues the same attention that is given to state or federal issues. Fairfaxpedia can be a great one-stop resource for people to learn about these issues. Collaboratively written content helps ensure that content is unbiased and referenced.

How to add/edit articles

To contribute to Fairfaxpedia, the first thing to do is log in or create an account. If you've used or contributed to the popular Wikipedia project, you can just review our contribution guidelines and start editing. If you're new to wikis, please take some time to learn more about Fairfaxpedia and review the help section for tips on wiki markup, using templates, and other features. There's also a cheatsheet for quick markup reference.
